surf meeting 4 / shark bite

This morning we had a bit of drama.......no I was kidding about the shark bite.
Seems Covie is progressing quite nicely in his surfing experience. As in life the more chances you take the higher the risk. Meaning the more waves you go after, your more likely of taking a whack to the head. Comes with the territory I suppose. So if you just sit and float you wont get hurt(as long as some shark doesn't come swimming by, needing his breakfast). So this mornings slide show installment is dedicated to "Da Moke" AKA the "Hamma"
Good job Covie!!!!!!!!!!!

surf meeting #3

We have been very lucky having surf for meetings. In these meetings we talk about how to improve business( surf business). We talk about..... "why did you get in my way on that one"? "I didn't see you coming, you should have said something". "How come your catching all the waves". "Man! did you see me on that one, "I got tubed ta death".
we had a lot of fun and a beautiful feeling sitting in the ocean!
that's why I picked this song checkout neosproductions.com for more great music.

East Coast Style

The other day something triggered a memory of 3 guys that showed up at Wrightsville Beach one summer day in 1965. Their names were Bill Bringhurst, John"Cheetah"Bothwell, Dennis"Skinny" English. They were 3 surfers from Florida. Since surfing was relatively a new sport to the area, they seemed to stand out above everyone else.Watching them surf was very inspiring they made riding waves look very easy. Their surfing styles were very smooth and controlled, something about this wave of riding waves was very appealing. Surfing magazines showing Phil Edwards and Miki Dora and all the west coast greats of the time. Some how didn't show the stylistic approach to surfing and the silent poetry of riding a wave. As I started to form my on style, I watched other surfers and tried to learn from them. I don't know where I heard this, but it has always stuck in my head "You have to make it look easy". No wasted movements or straining of maneuvers, and above all absolutely....... NO STINKBUG STANCE!!!

Over the years I think back on the surfers that influenced the path on the east coast surfing and me. Here is the short list that comes to mind. Some you know some you don't. I tried to locate as many pictures as possible all of these surfers, all had there very own distinct style................. east coast style.

surf report sunday july 5

Not much happening still. A word to describe it would be flat, yet there are still some die hard longboarders out there trying to catch some waves. In that knee high range breaking right on the shore, so like I said, there's not much goin' on out there. Check back later surf report 11:am
www.wblivesurf.com

Awe heck! I am going anyway ! here are couple pic's from this morning. I love this time of the year clear 80 degree water and 80 degree air. I must be in paradise. I got to chat with one of my old surfing friends Richard Barry. He can remember the year month and date of some of the best surfing days we have ever had around here. He was out doing his ocean swim and digging the scene on the beach today.

Surf Sickness

My Friend Mark Miller sent me some pics of his latest project"Raw Fish- cape fear",pretty cool logo. Mark's a really good surfer and has been around a long time. He suffers from the same sickness as me "Gottamakeyaownboardittis". Sorry to say there is no cure. It's treated by small doses of resin, cloth, and foam. If left untreated one finds himself in a state of confusion. Symptoms are running from the nose, slipping in tail. There have been case's reported of over use of sex wax. Hey Mark keep up your treatments you'll be fine. Great lookin board!

check out the sex wax website cool intro video http://www.sexwax.com
